Condé Nast Traveller UK Gold List 2009 - Double Honour for Singita

News hot off the international press is that Condé Nast has ranked South Africa’s Singita Game Reserves amongst the best hotels around the globe, in both the British and American editions of its prestigious Gold List for 2009.

Condé Nast Traveller UK has for the third consecutive year singled Singita Sabi Sand out as one of the Best Hotels for Ambience & Design in Africa, the Middle East & Indian Ocean region in its 5th Annual Gold List Awards. This year Singita was one of only three winning properties in this category. Ratings were based on a combination of Editors’ Choices and the highest-ranking hotels in its Readers’ Travel Awards for 2008. According to Condé Nast Traveller UK, Singita’s X-factor is rooted in the fact that the three lodges in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve (Singita Boulders, Singita Ebony and Singita Castleton Camp), ‘each has its own distinctive identity, yet are linked by exquisite craftsmanship and regularly updated, increasingly sophisticated décor.’ Scoring Singita Sabi Sand at 94.5, it went on to say that ‘the talented chef specialises in pan-African cuisine, the game rangers are the best you will find in Africa and the extensive cellar brings the world’s wines to the bush.’ 

Across the Atlantic, based on the Condé Nast Traveler USA Readers’ Choice Awards where over 32 000 readers voted for their best hotels, the American edition of the magazine has also included Singita in its 15th annual Gold List. Widely used by American travellers and recognised as ‘a compendium of properties as reliable as bullion itself’, the prestigious 2009 Condé Nast Traveler USA Gold List not only includes Singita Sabi Sand, but also for the first time, Singita’s two lodges in the Kruger National Park, Singita Lebombo and Singita Sweni. Scoring 94.3, Singita Kruger National Park, the youngest in Singita’s South African portfolio, was hot on the heels of flagship Singita Sabi Sand, which, rated at a score of 94.4, was quipped by readers as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime-experience’.
