Singita Grumeti Reserves has raised the bar to yet another level by becoming the first stables in East Africa to offer professional Riding Proficiency examinations and SANEF (South African National Equestrian Federation) certification to their grooms.

SANEF qualifications have a minimum pass rate of 70% and are recognised by the international standards of the IGEQ (International Group of Equestrian Qualifications), currently represented in 32 countries worldwide.

Known for offering an unmatched riding experience within the 350 000 acre (140 000 hectare) private concession along the Western corridor of the Serengeti, Singita Grumeti Reserves stables 18 horses in its state-of-the-art Equestrian Centre on site at Singita Sasakwa lodge.

Headed by Equestrian Manager Alison Mundy and Equestrian Guide Martin Dodwell, Singita employs eleven grooms who took the recent exams to become the best professionally qualified grooms and equestrian guides in all of Tanzania and East Africa.

The horses range from Thoroughbreds and various cross breeds, to South African Boerperde - a breed known for its outstanding temperament and comfortable paces, ideally suited to the 4-night horse safaris on offer here to experienced riders.

Singita Sasakwa, the flagship lodge of Singita Grumeti Reserves, was singled out by leading French luxury travel magazine Hôtel&Lodge, among the three Best Lodges in the world for 2009. This important milestone followed shortly after Condé Nast Traveler ranked Singita Grumeti Reserves among the Top 10 Hotels in Africa, the Middle East & the Indian Ocean Islands, in the 2009 Readers’ Travel Awards. Singita Grumeti Reserves was also listed as one of Top 20 Hotels in the World, and the Top 20 Lodges in Africa & the Middle East, in last year’s Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards (2009).
