A focus area of the Fund’s community development efforts has been the education of the local youth. This support has taken the form of the building and renovation of schools, enhancing the ability of teachers to develop holistic skills amongst the youth, the provision of textbooks and financial support for individual children through the awarding of scholarships.

The Grumeti Fund offers 65 bursaries each year to primary, secondary and tertiary students from the local community. A specific proportion of the funding is reserved for the children of staff. The bursaries cover the costs of tuition, books and, in many cases, hostel accommodation. At a tertiary level bursaries are offered to students wishing to enter into careers which are offered at Singita Grumeti – conservation, hospitality or business – and as such the bursaries are related to a possible offer of employment by the company.
