Buying Locally

BACK

The Singita Kruger National Park lodges are dedicated to sustainable development of communities on the outskirts of the park. Their key strategy is to facilitate the establishment and development of small businesses and to deliberately purchase goods from these suppliers. At times the lodges play a mentoring role to ensure that these small businesses can be well bedded down and enter a real growth phase.

Singita’s monthly spend on local suppliers and contractors has doubled over the last two years since it introduced this deliberate strategy. This approach includes working with local craftspeople to produce items which form part of the lodge décor and which can be sold in the Singita Shop.

Services sourced locally include daily transport for staff, waste removal, linen repair and beverage supplies. A recent feasibility study has demonstrated the viability of a community laundry service to the Singita lodges and other lodges in the park, and this will be the core of our latest outreach focus.
