Seasons in Tanzania (continued)

JANUARY TO FEBRUARY
From the end of December to late January days are consistently warm accompanied by the odd late afternoon shower. The previous month’s rains have increased grazing quality on the plains and the great viewing of herbivores continues. Once again the days are long and warm and most evenings and drives will require nothing more than a long sleeved shirt.

MARCH TO MAY
The months of March through to May are traditionally when the long rains fall. Afternoon thundershowers are typical. These months are normally defined by warm mornings and hot days reaching the upper 20’s and lower 30’s with regularity. Afternoon drives may encounter heavy downpours followed by sunshine and glorious sunsets. This time of year offers some of the best cloudscapes at Singita Grumeti as there is nothing quite like an African thunderstorm on the Serengeti plains. Game viewing activities are generally confined to the morning during these months. The guides will therefore opt for longer morning drives with packed breakfasts and stay out in the field until midday.

Singita Grumeti Reserves forms part of the world-famous migratory route. The Great Migration traditionally moves through Grumeti Reserves between June and August. However, there is an abundance of wildlife year-round. The Serengeti, which is Africa’s No. 1 World Heritage Site, is also home to 25 species of carnivores, 40 herbivore species and over 600 bird species - including five that are endemic, and an impressively large number of raptors that form the highest concentration on the continent. This is also where you’ll find a wide range of primates, such as the rare Patas and Colobus monkeys, and prolific plant life.
