November 2011 : Sabi Sand Reserve, South Africa

It was twenty years ago this month that I started my career as a guide, after a very happy six years as a Biology teacher.  Yes, they were happy years indeed, but the experiences that I have had as a guide since then have been remarkable, and a whole book needs to be written on that subject.  I keep promising myself that I will write that book, but I have procrastinated and procrastinated. 

It is, however, still my intention to get down and do it.  There have been so many books written by guides, some good and some not so good, so when I do get down and begin one, it needs to be a little different.  However, I digress, as this little article has nothing to do with a book that I hope to write.
There are many exciting careers that one can choose, but I think that I am very fortunate to have chosen guiding – even though it was only going to be for a few years initially!
