It’s often a little unnerving when you catch someone that has been intently watching you for a while – and out here in the wild it’s no different, but more exciting and exhilarating!
We had that experience this week when we were busily setting up a special dinner under the stars and, after that sixth sense feeling one has of being observed, looked up to see a magnificent jet black Verreaux’s eagle (Aquila verreauxii) perched on a branch overhead, keenly observing our every move!
Of course these encounters are a little more adrenalin-filled when the observers are a pride of lions or a leopard watching you, as regaled in this journal’s story of, “A nugget of gold”.
